Maladaptive daydreaming research is picking up momentum

We are delighted to note that MD research is now being published by academics who are not part of our group (ICMDR). Recently, we became aware of an MD study published in Pakistan: Anwar, M., Aqeel, M., & Shuja, K.M. (2018). Linking Social Support, Social Anxiety and Maladaptive Daydreaming: Evidence from University Students of Pakistan. Foundation University Journal of Psychology, 2(2), 139-179. Today we were informed about a Hungarian paper reporting that high levels of celebrity worship were associated with problematic Internet use, maladaptive daydreaming, and desire for fame. The paper used our definitions of MD, the 16-item Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale (MDS-16) and it quotes several ICMDR papers. Publication of MD papers authored by non-ICMDR partners contributes to the broader academic acceptance of this new construct as a useful and valid mental health issue.
