Escape from reality - a new report on maladaptive daydreaming in a German popular science magazine

The German popular science magazine Gehirn & Geist (Brain & Mind) published a story on maladaptive daydreaming in its October issue. Scientific contributor Dr. Stefanie Uhrig reports that a group at the Max Planck Institute for Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany plans to study maladaptive daydreaming. Dr. Samyogita Hardikar and Professor Arno Villringer indicated they intend to look into the brains of those affected and explore what distinguishes, at the neuronal level, maladaptive from healthy daydreaming. The study will employ state-of-the-art brain imaging technology.

We are pleased that scholarly awareness of this condition is growing and that cutting edge research technology at the prestigious Max Planck Institute will be utilized to decipher the neurobiological mystery behind it
