Hi everyone,
We were trying to understand, lately, what is Reality Shifting (RS). Purportedly, a way to move one’s consciousness from the current reality (CR) to a desired reality (DR). Some believe it is a form of daydreaming, while others think that it’s genuinely possible to shift into another parallel reality through this mental activity. The semblance of RS to MD has prompted some of us to describe this seemingly prevalent consciousness-altering subculture in a scientific journal. Current Psychology has just published the paper, titled: Reality shifting - psychological features of an emergent online daydreaming culture.
Click here to read it. Because individuals with MD had reported that RS is widely discussed on social media outlets such as TikTok, we have uploaded a TikTok clip with the relevant hashtags, in the hope of cultivating respondent cooperation with any future studies of RS.
Flipboard is a newsreader and digital magazine tool that relies on subscribers’’ interests to curate the day's biggest headlines. Unlike other news apps, one can flip through and read stories and articles on Flipboard like one would a print magazine.

Flipboard doubles as a social network where users can connect and discuss news interests, including entertainment, sports, politics, food, and more. Recently, Flipboard has curated a story on MD published elsewhere, and is offering it to readers interested in psychology and medicine.
Maladaptive daydreaming continues to draw the interest of the international press. Last month the German-language daily newspaper, Kurier, based in Vienna, Austria, featured a story on MD.
The Daydreamers recently won last month the Best Short Documentary award at the Amsterdam Independent Film Festival. The jury found the film to be - creatively made, enlightening, questioning. Here is another quote from the jury: "Strong conversations that still left much air for thoughts and self-reflection during watching. Strong characters and enjoyable doubt whether it's acted/scripted. This hybrid form reflects on the escapist theme and adds lightness to - at moments- under the skin gripping experience".

Based on this achievement director of the Daydreamers, Thomas Willem Renckens (circled in red) was selected by The Netherlands Film Academy and The Netherlands Film Fund to take part in a training program for emerging documentary talent in the Netherlands. Congratulations, Thomas!
A lot is happening in the Netherlands. A Master’s thesis was recently submitted to the Department of Psychology at the University College Groningen by Lianne Haak. Her research was titled: The Development of Maladaptive Daydreaming: A Complex Dynamic Systems Approach. The thesis is currently being written up as a scientific paper. Below is the English abstract of her Lianne's thesis.

See you all with more MD news in about a month's time.
