The prestigious medical journal Psychiatry Research has issued today an online pre-publication of a new study that adds further knowledge to the growing field of maladaptive daydreaming (MD). The current findings suggest that difficulties with control are central to MD and that MD may be related to dysfunctional emotional regulation. We concluded that strategies borrowed from evidence-based treatments for behavioral addictions and interventions targeting cognitive control and treatments that offer effective alternative strategies for managing emotions are likely to be beneficial for managing MD.
