ICMDR member Adriano Schimmenti collaborated with his Italian colleagues in the paper titled: “Attached to Virtual Dreams: The Mediating Role of Maladaptive Daydreaming in the Relationship Between Attachment Styles and Problematic Social Media Use”. Sudanese medical student Moez Bashir wrote a paper about the “Prevalence of Maladaptive Daydreaming among medical students at the University of Khartoum in 2020-2021”. Congratulations!
You can access all known academic publications in the field of MD from our site (here).

Parallel to the developing science of maladaptive daydreaming (MD), the field continues to be widely featured on the web. Here are some examples from last month:
+ The student-produced newspaper at the University of Oklahoma reported that Grayson Wise, an OU student won the T.G. Mays Purchase Award for her art piece “She’s a Dreamer: Italian Remnants”. The piece was heavily inspired by Wise’s experiences with MD and will become a permanent part of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art collection.
+ The Australian public television network, ABC, quoted ICMDR scientific director Dr. Nirit Soffer-Dudek in a story titled: “Maladaptive daydreaming: When being caught up in a world in which people love you can be badosing Therapy published an article called: “Maladaptive Daydreaming: Symptoms, Treatments, & How to Cope”.
+ The New York Times published a report on daydreaming referring to MD, as well.
+ Reporter Smriti Dhakal published a story about MD that featured simultaneously in the Nepali newspaper Himalayan Times and the Nepali website MyRepublica website.
+ Testimonies of MDers continue to be reported in the media. This month the Dutch RTL news network featured the story of Demian who was addicted to daydreaming.
+ On April 23 a French podcast “Réalité Compensée” (tr. Compensated Reality) was posted by Cathy Bremond. For the French members in our community, check out this new 4-episodes Spotify podcast. We were recently informed of the existence of a French MD community on the Discord server called Rêverie Compulsive.

MD also makes waves in the music culture. For example, the new Denver band, Mlady, has just released its debut album titled “Maladaptive Dreaming” (March 31). The songs on the album were composed by the lead singer and describe her experience with MD. Moreover, the pop-punk band “Thrash Boat” has announced details of their upcoming third album “Don’t You Feel Amazing?” to be released on August 13, 2021. The last track of the upcoming album is titled “Maladaptive Daydreaming”. We are curious to hear it and read its lyrics.
Stay tuned, and be safe.
